Before

The Design Story

This utility shed was added to address the growing need for dedicated storage, so I created this garden to allow a seamless integration into the surrounding landscape. Rather than remaining purely functional, this design transforms the shed into a welcoming garden feature. I chose to incorporate plantings that are both low maintenance and seasonally interesting, balancing practicality with visual appeal.
Daylilies—my first plantings when we moved in—were relocated to the front of the shed, where they continue to thrive. Echinacea adds simple beauty and late-season interest, while a climbing rose introduces a rich pop of color against the gray exterior. Together, these elements create a cohesive design that balances function and aesthetics.

Before & After

Sparce Utility Shed
This was a major eye-sore pre-garden addition.

Visual Planning Stage
I like to layout my elements and plants before I finalize any project.

The Work Begins
After mapping the design, I begin to frame the look and remove dirt.

Plant Installation
Appearance of the garden now with the flowers planted.

A Touch of Hardscaping
Gardens show great character when adding in elements like rocks.

Project Completion
The look of happiness once a project is complete.
