We chose to install a flagstone patio because this section of our yard falls at the bottom of a steep hill, and it would take a very long time to dry after a good rain. Installing this patio kept our dog from jumping off the stairs into wet mud, as well as giving us a nice area to sit and have a fire.
Our front yard was nothing but grass when we moved into our home, so you can imagine how boring it was to look at. I began to dream up different ways to add some appeal to our front yard, and figure out how to use the space wisely since we do not have a very large area to work with. After many trips to our local garden centers for inspiration, as well as creating a design rendering to help visualize a plan, I came up with the layout you see here in these images which has worked out beautifully for us.
This little garden bed was not something I originally intended to do, however it gave me more confidence in being able to take an open space that does not line up against anything, and make it an amazing focal point that people besides even myself have enjoyed walking by. Since this area receives the most sun in our yard, I felt it would be perfect as a pollinator garden.
